interns, wedding cakes, and pie.

Summer semester officially started last week so, as always, we are busy with school. Although... Steven is only taking two classes so it doesn't really count for him. :)

We have lots of things going on this summer! I am going to school full time, still working at the day care, we just got called to be in the nursery for our ward, and I have an internship! My internship is through SLCAP Headstart and I will be working mainly with teen moms and educating them about parenting (which will be strange because.... I'm not a parent....hmmmm). I'm kind of nervous and excited for this position. I just started today and it has been a VERY eye opening experience so far. I hope that I will be able to create positive change in these people's lives.

What else have I done? I made my first wedding cake!!! yes. you heard me right. not a birthday cake, not an anniversary cake, a WEDDING cake. pictures soon to come.

and of course, I had to make a list of my other plans for the summer. Here's all the amazing things I plan on doing this summer:

1. go to cupcake shops (Paige, are you still in??) rumor has it that So Cupcake and Nielsen's Frozen Custard has custard cakes... mmmmmmm
2. paint our table and chairs
3. go to more outdoor movies
4. make a delicious peanut butter pie with oreo crust, recipe courtesy of the Pioneer Woman.
5. get in the habit of exercise, for reals this time.
6. Go on a little getaway trip with Steven somewhere... possibly Seattle? San Francisco? Who knows!
7. watch Young Victoria at least 3 times
8. Go to Boulder
9. shop the semi-annual sales coming up!
10. hang out with Holly, Heather, and Sage. LOTS.

more things to come I'm sure... but for now I'll leave it at that. you should all come party at our new place. You can eat some peanut butter pie with us. :)

The Art of Homemaking

For my Birthday, my sister sent me a book called The Art of Homemaking by Daryl V. Hoole, to give me some "extra help" becoming a domestic housewife. This book was published in 1967, and so naturally, I had to read some of it to find out how to be a good housewife. So far, I have learned a lot, here is one of the first things that Daryl says about being a good housewife:

"An ideal homemaker is lovely to look at and lovely to be around - she has a wholesome attitude and a pleasing appearance."

She explains this by saying:

"One of the most common complaints unhappy husbands have is that their wives have neglected their appearance and slop around the house with uncombed hair and in runover slippers which look like two dead rabbits."

and...

"If you LOOK THE PART, you'll feel like DOING THE PART. And, remember, as far as make-up is concerned, 'Even a barn looks better if it's painted!'"

AND....

"Beauty is a DUTY!"

So, there you have it. I guess I need to start wearing a bit more eyeshadow during the day.

New place!

Here are some pictures everyone!!! We are settled in (mostly) and lovin' it! We are still in a basement, but we have big windows that let a lot of light in so we don't even feel like it's a basement. It's a nice change from the dark dungeon we were in before. We have a cute little neighborhood with cute little neighbors (including some Utah football players next door...although they aren't exactly 'cute') and funny little kids who live upstairs. One of them is really chatty, and if you're lucky enough to run into him, he may ask you if you have an old man living with you. Funny, these 4 year olds. Anyways, enjoy the pictures!

entry way (notice all the storage we have now.)

bathroom
part of living room (I am going to paint the table and chairs someday)

living room (the place came with a steven)

kitchen (much larger than the last one)

Ensign

Yesterday we hiked Ensign Peak as a little Mothers' Day activity. I thought it important to document a few things that happened since I haven't been there in about 10+ years. I remember why though; it's freakin' freezing with the constant wind on top o' there!
